History
To visit the Le Brun historical site is to discover a unique museum which covers the entire history of regional commerce through three stores that have been transported or built on this site since 1803.
The first store was built on «le chemin du Roy» (the Kings road) by Eugene Trudeau in 1827. He later was a patriot in the 1837-38 rebellion.
The second general store was built by François Boucher in 1803 less than three kilometers away from Trudeaus store. It was then bought by the then owners of the Trudeau's General store. They rolled it on logs, pulled by horses, to finally rest it right next to the other building. It operated this way until 1915.
By then the owner was Odilon Le Brun and business was good. An expansion was in order. Odilon associated himself with his brothers Joseph and Oscar, backed the 1803 store and built this magnificent , modern general store. It measures 19.5 meters (64 feet) long, has three stories, and employed up to 24 people at a time. It was the ancester of the commercial center (the mall).
The site was recognised by the Quebec Minstry of culture to be a historical site in 1981.
It was saved from a sure wrecking ball by Gisèle Saucier and Serge C. Martin In 1976 when they bought the site in hope of restoring it. It took 20 years to accomplish but it opened to the public in January 1997. Its history and grandeur makes it unique and quite a discovery.
